Cat Trap Loan

Due to signifcant budget constraints, the shelter cannot keep up with the number of feral cats and offspring coming into the shelter. Effective immediately, ACS is no longer able to loan cat traps to the general public for the purpose of nuisance feral and/or stray cat removal. If you need a cat trap for this purpose, please contact your local hardware store or pet supply store to purchase a trap. You may also contact a trapping service however, please note: Trapping feral cats and bringing them to the shelter will not solve the nuisance cat problem in your area and may make the problem much worse.

When cats are removed from a colony, the colony experiences an abundance of resources, making the environment more hospitable for the remaining animals which results in healthier, more reproductive adults. TRAPPING and REMOVING = MORE CATS.

ACS will continue to loan traps to individuals who participate in TNR (trap, neuter and return). We encourage you to trap, neuter and return cats to their colonies in order to reduce cat numbers. Participation in this program is only $25.00 per cat. Please bring trapped feral cats to the shelter Tuesday through Wednesday between 8;00a.m. and 8:30a.m. The cat will be sterilized and ready for you to pick up in the afternoon. Once the cat recovers (usually 24-48 hours after surgery), simply return it to its colony - without the ability to reproduce!

Please understand that surrendering healthy-looking feral cats to the shelter in a borrowed trap may result in the inability to borrow a trap from SJACS in the future.

Please contact Staycee Dains, Shelter Operations Supervisor, at (408) 794-7205 with questions, comments or concerns.
