Volunteer Position Title: SJACS Spay/Neuter Clinic Check-in Pal

Minimum Age: 18
What is fun and meaningful about this job? This position is part of the gateway to controlling pet overpopulation. We spay and neuter nearly 35 animals each day in our clinic, which means the check-in process must run quickly and efficiently. Having volunteers transferring carriers and preliminary exam results makes it possible to get through a speedy check-in.
DUTIES:
- Assist with checking in clients at our Low-cost Spay & Neuter Clinic
- Serve as liason between customers and veterinary staff
- Match up paperwork and label ID bands for incoming cats
- Transfer carriers 30 feet from lobby to restricted vet area for initial vet evaluation
- Notify customers of cats who do not qualify for surgery due to triage exam
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The volunteer must:
- Be dependable
- Have good communication skills to interface with staff, vets, and the public
- Be willing to adhere to the policies and procedures as instructed
- Be comfortable handling stressed cats in carriers, including traps containing feral cats
- Have the ability to disseminate accurate information
- Have a positive attitude

(All training done at the Animal Care Center. Class schedules provided after we receive your application.)

- Personal instruction by experienced Spay/Neuter Volunteer
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - We require volunteer help in this role every Tuesday - Friday from 7am - 9am. In this position, you would be assigned one day of the week and your attendance on your assigned day is mandatory. Please apply for this position only if you are able to maintain a regular schedule of volunteering the fixed hours on your assigned day for the required 6 month period.
- This position is limited to the check-in process for the clinic. This position does not involve working directly with animals (other than transporting carriers with cats that remain in the carriers) and does NOT involve working "in" the clinic doing veterinary procedures. Working in the clinic is an advanced role that is only offered to experienced veterinary professionals who have been volunteering at the San Jose Animal Care Center for over 60 hours.
